Serving an idol devised by our expectations of what a god should be is much safer than serving the living God that Jesus revealed.
We are programmed to worship. If it is not God it will be something else that at least cannot help but at most can destroy.
Going to church could be deadly if it does not translate into heart change and care for those around us.
Immersed in the busy here and now taking care of our own things it is easy to forget our destination and our obligation to others.
